Historic town houses could become “trainer flats” for young people leaving care

PLANS to restore two historic townhouses in Warrington as “trainer flats” for young people have been submitted to the borough council.

The adjoining properties in Stanley Street are believed to date from 1772 and are Grade 2 Listed buildings.
But they have stood empty for some time – one of them for about 10 years – during which time they have deteriorated.

Casaamount Developments have submitted proposals to bring the two houses back into use as 10 residential units for occupation by young people aged 16-18 who have suffered traumatic childhoods.
There would also be a teaching room and overnight accommodation for staff.
The youngsters would benefit from 24/7 supervision and the properties would provide transitional accommodation for them as they left care and became independent around the age of 18.
Proposals envisage improving the exterior of the buildings and construction of a two-storey rear extension to replace an existing rear addition which would be demolished.
The proposals are being considered by Warrington Borough Council planning officers.
