HIGHWAYS chiefs at Warrington have done a U-turn on proposals for major road works in Lymm Village.
They now say morning closures of Pepper Street and the Pepper Street car park for up to four days is a “worst case scenario.”
Although the road has to be planed and resurfaced, this is likely to take only a few hours and it highly unlikely that the morning closures will be for four days.
Originally, Warrington Borough Council, announced that Rectory Lane would be closed between 9.30am and 3.30pm for up to two weeks from yesterday (Monday).
The Cross, adjacent to The stocks and the Pepper Street junction, would be closed between 9.30am and 1pm.
Later they announced that the Pepper Street car park would be also be closed for up to two weeks – enraging local shopkeepers.
Following protests, however, highways chiefs have said even the four day closures are unlikely, provided there are no unexpected hold-ups.
During the roadworks, traffic wardens will not be enforcing parking regulations so if motorists are “trapped” on the car park by roadworks, they will not be issued with tickets.

Is anyone in Lymm up for election…. there would have been a lot of unhappy residents and shopkeepers in Lymm again had the original closure plans and parking fines been actioned 🙂 Ok so I’m just being cynical as usual 🙂
No, just perceptive. 🙂
Has any shop keepers put a claim in, on there council tax for all the disruption ?
