Rowing club gets a boost from planning chiefs

PLANNING chiefs have given a boost to Warrington’s thriving rowing club – by giving the go-ahead for temporary storage units at their river-side headquarters.

Members of Warrington Borough Council’s development management committee have approved the provision of two storage containers, and the retention of an existing one at Warrington Rowing Club, off Howley Lane.

The containers will provide storage for boats and other items for a period of three years, giving the club time to secure funding for a more permanent arrangement.
There were no objections from nearby residents.

The committee was told the club, founded in 1985, had a growing membership and was particularly active in providing sport for young people.
Their Warrington Youth Rowing initiative employs two coaches, providing a service to local schools, and is designed to introduce a wide range of young people to rowing.
The club hosts an annual regatta on the Mersey.
