Pitch inspection ahead of big local football derby

THERE will be a pitch inspection ahead of the big local football derby between Warrington Rylands and Warrington Town on Saturday afternoon, kick-off 3pm.

Although Rylands’ Gorsey Lane pitch “drains well,” heavy rain throughout the week left water standing on the surface, meaning a pitch inspection will take place on Saturday morning.

The eagerly anticipated game is expected to attract a bumber crowd of around 1,500, with both clubs pushing for the play-offs, Warrington Town currently sitting in 4th place, two points above Rylands in 6th spot.

Town go into the game on the back of an impressive 2-2 draw at Hyde United on Tuesday evening, while Rylands suffered a disappointing 3-0 defeat to Ashton United at the weekend, on the back of an impressive win at Marine.
Ahead of the game Rylands have announced the extension of loan signing Ben Hockenhull from Tranmere Rovers until the end of the season and the signing of former Tranmere Rovers and Wales U21 goalkeeper Luke Pilling from Telford United, who go straight into the squad for tomorrow’s game.
Mark Beesley’s side go into the game on a six-game unbeaten run following Tuesday’s 2-2 draw away at Hyde.
The Yellows could again be without defender Mitch Duggan, who has missed the last two matches through injury. Teddy Mfuni also left the club to join Oxford United in midweek, while Mikey Howard (knee) remains a longer-term absentee.
