Self-build house approved despite parish council objection

PLANS for a one-and-a-half storey self-build house on a former nursery site at Lymm have been approved – despite being opposed by Lymm Parish Council.

The scheme – involving the former Greenscene nursery in Burford Lane – was approved by planning chiefs at Warrington.

A number of previous applications for housing on the site – including a similar self-build scheme – were refused and dismissed on appeal.
Lymm Parish Council’s objection was on the grounds of inappropriate development in the Green Belt and that the proposed boundary treatment along Burford Lane would be inappropriate for the street scene.
The scheme includes the demolition of existing outbuildings on the site and the construction of a dwarf wall, railings and wrought-iron-style gates along the front of the site.

Warrington Borough Council officers, who recommended the scheme be approved, said it could be considered limited in-fill in a village and, as such, would be acceptable in the Green Belt.
They believed the proposed front boundary treatment would represent a significant improvement to local character.
