A work reunion event organised by Warrington care worker Derek Vernon helped raise more than £750 which he has divided equally between two local good causes.
Derek, who worked at Richmonds from 1976 until it closed in 2002, organised a reunion event at the Pierpoint Club last month for former employees/friends of Richmond’s gas stoves company formerly of Latchford.
The last Richmond’s reunion he organised raised £400 for the Kidney Foundation, with the latest raising £753 which has been split between two Warrington charities -The Shannon Bradshaw Trust, where he is a proud Patron and to Lisa Billing for the Marshall Gardens memorial garden where he is a regular volunteer.
Derek, a well-known member of the community for his various activities, including litter picking, has been raising money for charities since 1982, raising almost £70,000 over the years.
Derek, who works as a carer with Warrington Borough Council, said: “My proudest charity donation was when I raised over £500 on winning the Warrington half marathon in 1988 for a well respected Warrington boxer.
“I was offered £5 by a couple of friends if I won the race which was a lot of money in 1988. Winning that race was a very proud and emotional moment and I was close to tears on running across the finishing line.”
Meanwhile, Derek has almost completed a Warrington-based feature film script and already cast five established Warrington-based actors while also currently learning his lines for a film called “Tommy” and a stage play called “Sunday” …He is also presently cast in two films on amazon prime and cast in three soon to be released feature films!
In his spare time he is also a registered Minister and has already pencilled in two weddings in Warrington for this year!
