Cheshire – 15th least likely area to be burgled

IF you live in Cheshire you can relax, safe in the knowledge that you live in the 15th least likely area to be burgled according to a new survey by security experts.

That’s according to home security experts at ADT, who have been looking at the number of residential burglaries per 1,000 people for the year ending March 2022.

In Cheshire, 5.3 people per 1,000 were burgled. ADT doesn’t go into sufficient detail to tell us what the figure would be for Warrington, but given the size of the borough and its urban nature, it would not be surprising if it turned out to be higher than for the county as a whole.

It is certainly a little worrying that just down the road in Greater Manchester the figure is 14.9 per 1,000 people – making it the most burgled area in the country.
Merseyside and Lancashire are joint eighth in the table with eight people per 1,000 suffering a burglary.

Least burgled area in the country is Devon and Cornwall, where only two people in 1,000 had theor homes broken into. Next safest area was Sussex, with 3.2 burglaries per 1,000 people.
ADT’s research has produced some other findings.
Most house burglaries – 70 per cent – happen on weekdays.

Twenty four per cent of burglaries are committed by someone who knows the victim – a friend, a family member or a neighbour who knows the victim’s routine.
On average, a burglary in England and Wales costs £2,856.
