WARRINGTON’s volunteer Litter Networks have created a new annual litter-picking record for the town!

Volunteers managed 7000 in the whole of 2021 but they have smashed this with 8,000 bags already collected before the end of this year.

Teams from Winwick, Howley and Fairfield, Great Sankey, Latchford, Orford, Lymm, Fearnhead, Croft and Westy, together with the roving Tuesday and Sunday litter teams have pooled their totals to smash the previous record.

Recent Bag totals were:
HFLT (Howley & Fairfield) 725 bags, TLT (Tuesday team) 4497, SLT(Sunday team) 623 bags,
OLT (Orford) 292 bags,
Winwick 750, Croft 94,
CUMC 157, Lymm 168,
Fearnhead 443, Westy 130.

Nick Evans, a regular Tuesday team volunteer from Latchford commented: “Wow, 8,002 bags what an absolutely fantastic effort from all the Litter Networks!”

Local KBT Ambassador Tony Dixon added: “It’s amazing! We can all feel very proud. Together with last year, this is a cumulative effect, and we are definitely seeing key areas of the town getting tidier. This is a growing movement.
“We now have a constellation of active litter teams working together across the town.
“Between us, we are linking up and taking out the worst hotspots and giving many neighbourhoods a little lift. Nobody likes litter, it’s a downer we can all do without. Every street, and every park looks better and feels friendlier and safer whenever litter is removed. Warrington Borough Council completely gets it and has been extremely supportive”.
Tony added: “We are making progress and everyone in Warrington should take pride in the improvements in their local areas. We are aiming for mini-teams in many more areas.
“If you’d like to be a volunteer with one of the teams, please go to litternetworks.org
