POLICE are appealing for witnesses following a three-vehicle collision in Warrington this morning.
The crash occurred on the A574 Birchwood Way shortly before 7am.
Three vehicles were involved – a car, a van, and a motorcycle, blocking both carriageways. The A574 was closed in both directions at the junction of Dogbone Island and Woolston Grange Avenue, where they meet with Birchwood Way.
There was serious congestion in the Birchwood area, and also on the M62 and M6 in the Thelwall area. But police say the A574 has now re-opened and congestion has cleared..
The motor cyclist, a 39-year-old man from St Helens, was taken to Warrington Hospital with serious injuries. His family has been informed.
Police are appealing for witnesses to the collision and anyone who can help is asked to contact the Roads Policing Unit at Warrington Police Station on 0845 458 0000.
The car driver, a 63-year-old man from Warrington and the van driver, a 35-year-old man from Bolton, escaped serious injury..
