HEALTH and education professionals who are interested in volunteering abroad were invited to a conference at the Warrington campus of the University of Chester.
The international Health Work in Developing Countries Conference was organised by NHS North West and included delegates from across the region.
A variety of experts gave talks, including Eddisbury MP Stephen O’Brien, Parliamentary Under Secretary of State for International Development, who spoke about the Department for International Development’s backing for the NHS in overseas development support.
Those attending were able to share experiences of volunteering overseas and get advice on how to make the process easier.
The university is linked with a variety of organisations placing volunteers overseas. More than 20 exhibitors from various health and education agencies set up stands during the event.
Professor Peter Harrop, pro-vice-chancellor and provost at Warrington campus, said: “We were delighted to host such a high profile health event and support the work of the NHS in this area.
“The Warrington campus has a Public Services specialism, so we work closely with this sector, and the day was well-attended, with a number of interesting speakers in this field.”
