Fire crews rescue man from overturned canal boat

FIRE crews helped rescue a man from an overturned canal boat on the Bridgewater Canal at Lymm.

At 15:00 on Thursday afternoon the rope rescue unit from Lymm and supporting fire engine and one from Penketh, were called out to reports of an overturned canal boat on the Bridgewater Canal near Burford Lane, Lymm.

An inflatable raft was used to rescue a man from the upturned canal boat. The man was taken back to the towpath and an ambulance called as a precaution. The boat was in the canal at Burford Lane.

Reports locally suggest the man’s pet dog sadly drowned.
