THE former Mayor of Warrington, Cllr Maureen Creaghan, invited representatives from her chosen charities to the Town Hall recently to announce the distribution of funds from her mayoral year.

The money has been split between her chosen charities, who she supported throughout the year:
Forget Me Not Unit at Warrington Hospital – caring for patients with Alzheimer’s and Dementia
JUMP – providing photograph and film memories for children with terminal and life-limiting illness in the North West of England and Wales
Lifetime – providing support and services for elderly residents
PAPYRUS – supporting the prevention of young suicide

Cllr Creaghan was the 137th first citizen of Warrington, but due to coronavirus restrictions, was only sworn in as Mayor part-way through the previous Mayoral year.
Fundraising activity, even during the COVID-19 pandemic, has raised over £3,000 for PAPYRUS, Lifetime and JUMP.
A family donation of a gazebo and build at The Forget Me Not Ward at Warrington Hospital was also donated.
Cllr Creaghan, said: “I’m delighted that we have managed to donate thousands of pounds to four incredibly deserving local charities from my role as Mayor.
“I am particularly proud that we were able to manage this in what was a challenging time for us all, and I know that the funds donated will be very much appreciated by these charities.”
The Mayor’s charity appeal continues this year, with the current Mayor of Warrington, Cllr Jean Flaherty, raising money for:

St Joseph’s Family Centre – provides a range of services to support people and families in overcoming stress and family breakdown
Refuge (Warrington Independent Domestic Violence and Abuse Service) – supports women and men experiencing domestic abuse
Footsteps – provides support to anyone affected by someone else’s drug or alcohol use
PAPYRUS – a charity supporting the prevention of young suicide
