Fireworks as Rylands winless run goes up in smoke

WARRINGTON Rylands lit a bonfire under their recent run of dismal results beating Whitby Town at a rain-soaked Gorsey Lane to record their first league win in eight games.

Whitby, in fine form themselves, had a great chance to take the lead in the 3rd minute but Harvey Tomlinson dragged his shot from close range wide.

Two minutes later Jordan Mustoe made no mistake, meeting a Kyle Hayde cross at the far post he planted a firm header past Whitby keeper Shane Bland from a tight angle to give Rylands the lead.
Rylands created the better of the first half chances without increasing their lead with Callum Dolan and Dylan Vassalloboth shooting off target, Harry Pratt looping a header onto the roof of the net, Dean Furman having a shot blocked and Bland making a great reaction save to push away a Callum Dolan shot on the stroke of half time.
Whitby started the second half the better with Rylands keeper Joel Torrance palming away an Aaron Haswell shot in the opening exchanges and Harry Green just off target with a shot from the edge of the area.

Rylands were awarded a penalty in the 56th minute when Dolan was tripped just inside the Whitby area. The NPL Premier Division’s leading goal scorer took his tally for the season to 14 by smashing the spot kick into the roof of the net.
Rylands went close to adding to their tally in the final quarter of the game.
A clever flick from Dolan found Hayde in space inside the area, but Bland tipped his powerful strike behind for a corner, Kelly N’Mai curled a shot just wide and Bland tipped a long range Jak McCourt shot around the post.

Confusion was caused in the Rylands area in the last minute of the game when the Blue shirted defenders struggled to clear a corner, danger was averted when Whitby’s Brad Fewster headed over the bar as Rylands held on for what caretaker manager Jody Banim said was “a deserved win.”
