Blaze hostel evacuated

A TOWN centre hostel at Warrington was evacuated last night after a serious fire broke out on the first floor.
The blaze was at the Salvation Army’s James Lee House, on Brick Street.
Four fire appliances were sent to the scene, shortly after 9pm, when the blaze was reported.
Firefighters wearing breathing apparatus entered the building as it was believe people could be trapped inside.
But Salvation Army staff operated an evacuation procedure and roll-call which established that everyone had escaped from the building and the operation switched from search and rescue to firefighting.
The blaze was in a first floor room which was completed gutted. A ventilation unit was used to clear smoke from corridors. No-one was hurt.
The cause of the fire is not yet known and is being invesigated.
In another incident, at 1.30am today, fire crews were called to Lockton Lane, Bewsey where a car was discovered on fire. It is believed the vehicle had been stolen and set on fire after being abandoned. Police are investigating.
