£750,000 glasshouse scheme

A CONSULTATION event on a proposed £750,000 restoration scheme at a popular Warrington visitor attraction is being held tomorrow (Sunday).
An application for the Glasshouse Regeneration Project at Grappenhall Heys Walled Garden is being put to the Heritage Lottery Fund by Grappenhall and Thelwall Parish Council.
The first consultation event was held at the Witherwin Avenue site last month. Three potential options for the layout of the glasshouses were presented and discussed.
At tomorrow’s consultation, between 1pm and 3.30pm, the most popular layout for the regeneration project will be displayed and opinions on the project will be gathered. Refreshments will be available for those attending.
Plans include restoration of the currently derelict glasshouses to bring some areas to working order for plant propagation, practical work, demonstrations and plant displays. Other buildings will incorporate exhibition space, a meeting room/classroom and a cafe overlooking the gardens. The bid is due for submission in August.
Anyone interested in commenting on the project can also complete an on-line survey at www.surveymonkey.com/s/GKM2W6H. Further information about the project is available from community outreach worker Carolyn Hassall at [email protected], or telephone: 01925 264918.

  1. I cant get a bus on sunday on

so let me get this straight…… we are paying £750,000 to repair a trumped up victorian green house when there are cuts being amde to essential services? what bloody planet are these people on? The money should be spent on stopping cuts not fanciful projects like this. Regardless of what the money is “allocated” for; if it comes from government of any description it should be spent where it is needed first…. the green house can be fixed when there is plenty of spare cash about in the future

  2. I think three quaters of a million for a greenhouse, no matter where the money comes from is sickening, how about giving the money to people in need

  3. I cant get a bus on sunday on

I know what the Heritage Lottery Fund is, but the way things are at the moment; if it is “spare, floaty abouty type money” it should be spent on essentials; not tarting up an old greenhouse…. and in a way it is a form of taxation because it comes from money given by the public when they buy a ticket…. and just like normnal tax, they never spend it on stuff the general public want it spent on!!
