Have your say on new Sankey Brook Flood Risk Management Scheme options

THE Environment Agency is encouraging residents, businesses, and stakeholders to share their views on proposals for a new flood risk management scheme in Warrington.

The scheme, which will be delivered in partnership with Warrington Borough Council, United Utilities, the Department for Education and the North West Regional Flood and Coastal Committee, will protect over 100O homes and businesses from the risk of flooding from Sankey Brook, Dallam Brook and Longford Brook..
A number of potential flood risk measures have been considered to inform a short list of options. These include natural flood management to ‘slow the flow’ of flood water further upstream; flood walls to keep flood water in the river and flood storge areas to store flood water away from communities. A full list of options can be found on the consultation page.

The scheme will be designed to improve the environment for the community and wildlife. This could include the creation of habitats for wildlife, improved recreational areas and   tree planting.  Any proposals will also aim to minimise the carbon emission of construction activity to help tackle climate change.
Ollie Hope, Area Flood and Coastal Risk Manager for Cheshire said: “The Environment Agency, together with all partners involved with these proposals, is committed to driving forward the delivery of the Sankey Brook Flood Risk Management Scheme.
“We would encourage everyone in the local community to visit our virtual engagement room, where they can view details of the scheme, learn more about our ongoing work and share their views and feedback.”

The consultation on the proposals is open until Friday 21st October and can be viewed by visiting  https://thefloodhub.co.uk/sankeybrookfrmswarrington/#section-8
