Gardens re-modelled at historic Pickering Arms pub

AN application for planning consent to carry out alterations to the gardens at the historic Pickering Arms at Thelwall has been submitted to Warrington Borough Council – after the work has been carried out.

Applicant Punch Pubs say the work respects the character of the Grade 2 Listed building – believed to have originally been a 17th-century coaching inn
The alterations involve the provision of rope and post fencing, new railway sleeper steps with handrails and railway sleeper flower planters.

The Pickering Arms sits in the centre of the historic Thelwall village.
On the gable end of the black-and-white half-timbered building is a plaque that states: “King Edward the Elder founded a city here and called it Thelwall.”
