WARRINGTON Rylands surrendered a two-goal lead as they went down 2-4 at home to Hyde United last night, just hours after announcing the shock departure of promotion-winning manager Dave McNabb and his backroom team.

It was a baptism of fire for caretaker manager Jody Banim as he saw goals from Kane Drummond and Callum Dolan cancelled out by half-time, with the visitors adding a further two unanswered goals after the break.

Building up a two goal lead in 25 minutes was not enough to prevent Hyde from leaving Gorsey Lane with their second victory of the season in an entertaining game that could have gone either way, but was decided by Hyde’s ruthlessness in front of goal.

Rylands started strongly with Kevin Ellison drawing a good save from Hyde goalkeeper Giosue Bellagambi as he powered a header goal wards from a corner.

Rylands took the lead in the 14th minute when the Hyde keeper rushed out of his goal and failed to make contact with a ball played over the top of his defence by Dean Furman. His air shot left Kane Drummond with the simple task of walking the ball into an empty net.

Hyde had a couple of shots off target and Rylands keeper Will Appleyard made a good save to deny Jack Redshaw before Drummond turned provider in the 24th minute, cutting the ball inside from the right wing into the path of Callum Dolan who fired into the bottom corner from outside the area.

Appleyard pulled off another good save to keep out a Redshaw shot but could not prevent Bradley Roscoe from scoring in the 32nd minute with a towering header after Rylands had struggled to clear a corner. Roscoe leveled the scores deep into time added on at the end of the first half.

Rylands enjoyed the better of the opening exchanges in the second half hitting the woodwork, forcing Bellagambi into several fine saves, hitting several attempts just off target while Aaron Morris had a shot cleared of the line by a Hyde defender.

As the half progressed the more Hyde started to take control, with Callum Spooner dragging a shot inches wide and Redshaw rippling the outside of the net with a shot.

Redshaw found the inside of the net in the 82nd minute; cutting inside from the left flank he curled a shot beyond Appleyard’s reach into the far corner of the net.

With Rylands pushing forward in search of an equalizer they were caught on the break in the 88th minute when Appleyard allowed substitute Tawab Djankpata’s long range shot to slip through his hands and legs for the ball to creep over the line.

After the match, Banim said he had inherited a talented bunch of players who had been well coached and for long spells of the game they had played well.
Although the team had conceded eight goals in the last two matches he said previous results had shown they know how to keep clean sheets.
“We’ve got to cut out the errors and be better at picking up the second balls. Football is all about small margins.”

Banim will take his first training session on Thursday before Rylands visit Matlock at the weekend.
