LATCHFORD Albion ended their season on a high, with a resounding 44-6 victory over Thatto Heath Crusaders A.
It was a near perfect first half for Albion, who completed 20 sets out of 20 and raced into a 32-O lead at the interval.
Tries came from Rob Marsh, Mike Walker, Gareth Fairhurst, Reece Hughes (2) with Matty Rudd (pictured) scoring a fine 80 metre sole effort, as well as adding four conversions to put the hosts in full control at the break.
The visitors never gave in and made it a much closer contest in the second half, but tries from captain Danny Brown, as well as Walker registering his second try of the afternoon, both converted by Rudd, saw the season come to a positive end following Albion’s first season in the NWML Premier Division.
Coach Martyn Ellis said: “ The first half and the result were just reward for the effort and commitment the lads have put in throughout the season.
“We have been competitive in most games, and looking back there was at least three of four games where we just didn’t get the result we hoped for which could have seen us featuring in the play offs. But we are young side who will learn from this and hopefully come back stronger.
“One of the most pleasing aspects of the season has been the number of former juniors returning to the club, having had time away from the game. It has really helped strengthen our squad and with a full pre-season we genuinely feel we can be even more competitive next year.”
