WARRINGTON Wolves forward Ben Currie has been granted a 12-month Testimonial by the Rugby Football League.

The Wire’s England international second-rower has been recognised for his long service to the game, good character and service to the community.

Ben is a product of the club’s Academy system and came through the ranks before making his first team debut against Widnes Vikings in 2012. He was part of the squad that won the Challenge Cup that season as well as lifting the trophy in 2019 with a Wembley win over St Helens.

He has made 229 appearances for the club across 11 seasons scoring 88 tries. He was also top try-scorer in 2016 when Warrington lifted the League Leaders’ Shield and scored in the Challenge Cup Final that season. The following year he represented England in the World Cup final and has seven appearances for the national side in total, as well as appearing for Ireland in the 2013 tournament.

Ben has chosen four charities to support for his testimonial year – The Down’s Syndrome Association, Alder Hey Children’s Hospital, Alzheimer’s Society and Cancer Research UK.

A Testimonial match is set to be held in his honour prior to the start of the 2023 season, with several other events to be announced in due course.

Ben Currie said: “It’s a pleasure to play for this club and to be granted a Testimonial is an amazing feeling.

“I debuted for the first team in 2012 but have been here a lot longer. When I signed an Academy contract with the club all those years ago I could only have dreamt of the opportunities in the sport that I’ve had. The club have treated me well over the years and there’s no place I’d rather be.

“It’s always an honour to play for this club and hopefully 2023 will be a successful year. My main focus will still be on my rugby but I’ll have a lot going on behind-the-scenes with events which I’m really excited for fans and sponsors to be a part of.”

Warrington Wolves CEO Karl Fitzpatrick added: “I’d like to congratulate Ben on being granted a Testimonial year by the RFL.

“Ben has experienced the highs and lows of rugby league in his 11 years here and has given incredible service to the club since coming through the ranks.

“I know he’s a popular figure amongst supporters and the playing group so I’ve no doubt it will be a successful 12 months for him on and off the field.”
