Lymm lose to leaders

LYMM dropped closer to the relegation zone with a 12-20 home defeat to league leaders Stockport.
However performances such as this will surely be sufficient to maintain their position at this level.
The team that had beaten Rochdale last week was retained with only Jack Johnstone replacing the injured Swetman on the bench.
Stockport had only beaten once all season and seem destined for the title. However they were aware that this was not to be a walkover after the first 10 mins. Luke Emmitt hit the post on 3 mins but was successful on 5 to give Lymm the lead. Stockport drew level on 10 with an Edwards kick but then Emmitt slotted home again on 17 to make it 6-3.
In a tense encounter Stockport registered tries on 21 and then 37 to give them 15-6 half time lead.
The Lymm coaches took the time to underline that the game was still to be won and with early substitutions, with old timers Sutton and Millachip coming on, the hosts looked possible winners. Indeed further penalties from Emmitt on 51 and 57 made it 15-12 and even when Adam Bray was binned Lymm held out with impressive defence and spirit.
A pushover try on 74 from Stockport sealed the win and though Lymm piled on the pressure the bonus point eluded the home team.
Coach Kinsey was pleased with the spirit saying: “The coaches asked for an improved performance which the lads gave and they deserved more in terms of the result.”
Luke Emmitt was awarded the man of the match for impressive out of hand kicking and defence. Special mention to Jordan Widdrington who, probably, had his finest display in the front row all season.
Director of Rugby Richard Boundy commented on the forthcoming fixtures said: “Our fate is very much in our own hands. If we can pick up anything in the next 2 away games we will be comfortably safe, i’m sure. The spirit today was for all to see. We will need it on the road.”
Lymm now travel to Penrith this Saturday and Sandal the week after against teams in a similar league situation.
