Anger over round-the-clock traffic

PLANNING chiefs at Warrington are to visit an industrial site where round-the-clock heavy traffic is making life a misery for nearby residents.
Heavy lorries pounding Bridge Lane, Woolston have fractured gas mains and residents of nearby Bridge Road and Cliftonville Road have to endure intolerable noise, vibration and loss of privacy, they claim.
M&A Investments are seeking retrospective planning consent to change the use of the former Forward Works, in Bridge Lane, to the storage of scaffolding.
Officers are recommending the application be approved. They point out the site has been used for industrial purposes for well over 10 years and if the present application is refused would revert to its previous lawful use
Residents point out that the site was previously occupied by a single firm – WH Capper Ltd.
It now houses the same firm along with the scaffolding firm, a portable building hire firm and six small mixed use units.
When portable buildings are being moved they take up the full width of Bridge Lane which is also access to another industrial estate, Centre 21.
It is also a public right of way, part of a footpath which provides access to the Woolston Urban Ecology Park.
Sixteen years ago, the borough council said it had recognised for many years the need for an alternative access to the site, but had never been able to provide one.
Members of the borough council’s planning committee have deferred a decision on the application pending a site visit.
