Grappers promoted – despite losing at home

GRAPPENHALL have won promotion back to the ECB Premier division of the RSK Cheshire County League – despite losing at home to Timperley.
The eight points they picked up from the game were enough to secure promotion, although they now sit second in the table, one point behind next week’s opponents, Cheadle.
The game, at Cheadle, looks set to be the title decider.
Highlight of the game with Timperley was Grant Hodnott’s unbeaten 102 – the former Gloucestershire player’s 100th century. He got good support from Ben Bodha, 46 not out and Edward Barnes, 36. as Grappers set a challenging target of 226 for the loss of five wickets.
With Timperley struggling on 62-5 the game seemed to be going Grappers’ way, but the middle-order came good and the visitors eventually snatched victory by four wickets in the last over.
Pick of Grappers’ bowlers were spinners Kieran Lawton, 3-70 and Albert Pennington, 2-55.
Grappenhall 2nd put in a remarkable performance , chasing down Widnes’s 249 in the final over, for the loss of eight wickets. In the first half the Grappers bowlers toiled, although Arthur Pennington took 2- 27.
After tea, Grappers stepped up to the plate and put in a superb team batting performance. Pennington was once again the pick with 70 not out, ably supported by Zak Judge with 34.
Grappers 3rd chased down a mammoth 223 to beat league leaders Didsbury by six wickets During the first half, Zak Judge picked up 2 wickets as the young Grappers bowling attack struggled against the already promoted Didsbury.
After tea, Grappers batters were superb, chasing down the total for the loss of only four wickets with three overs to spare.
Sixteen-year-old Yuvan Sunderamoorthy starred with the bat, setting the innings off with 70 off 84 balls. Ben Clissold smashed a superb 53 off 38 balls while 14- year- old Shlok Ramakrishnan contributed 43 off 46 balls to see Grappers home.
All three Grappenhall teams can already look back on successful seasons with the 2nd and 3rd XIs occupying safe middle-table positions.
It’s a different story at Walton Lea, however, with Warrington facing almost certain relegation to division three after being beaten by six wickets by Mobberley.
Warrington chose to bat first and were dismissed for a below-par 144. Skipper Patricik Tyrrell top scored with 37, Jack Knowles hit 29 and Umer Zeb 26 not out.
Mobberley raced to victory in the 28th over, despite Muhammad Abid taking 3-37.
Warrington 2nd provided some cheer for the club, however, winning by four wickets at PortSunlight
The home side batted first and were held to 152-9, Jon-Jo Fagan-Hall taking 3-25.
Warrington took the honours with 156-6, Ravi Sabba top-scoring with 44.
In the UKFast Cheshire League, Lymm Oughtrington Park went down heavily at Bunbury.
The home skipper won the toss and elected to bat first. They totalled a challenging 239-8 in 45 overs.
Lymm never looked in the hunt and were bowled out for 134 in 41 overs.
The result left Lymm firmly rooted at the bottom of the division one table and, with two games left, staring at an almost certain relegation.
Appleton 2nd won by 62 runs hosting Old Parkonians.
Put in first, Appleton were all out for 162 in the 37th over. Liam Mannion top-scored with 35.
The visitors were dismissed for 100, Michael Cumberland taking 4-35.
Appleton 3rd were beaten by three wickets at Heaton Mersey Village after being bowled out for a disappointing 68, John Porter top-scoring with 18.
The home side also struggled for runs, with D Walsh taking 5-25. But they finished on 72-7 to claim the match.
Appleton 4th lost by five wickets at home to Chester County Officers after being dismissed for 119, Antony Hurst hitting 38 and Nick Williams 37. The visitors reached their target for the loss of five wickets, Martin Othick taking 3-20.
Glazebury lost by 61 runs at Styal, where the home side elected to bat first and were dismissed for 137, Sam Stanier taking 5-38. Glazebury’s batsmen never really got going and they were bowled out for 76 in 17 overs, Anthony Meulman top scoring with 26.
Women’s cricket
APPLETON strengthened their grip on second place in the Cheshire Women’s League division one with a big win over Didsbury.
They posted a mammoth 256-6 in 40 overs, with Georgia Heath hitting a superb 116 not out, Holly McCurrie 51 and Annie Rashid 27.
Heath’s innings came from 68 balls and included 21 fours and three sixes. She needed only 47 deliveries to reach three figures.
Didsbury were bowled out for 119 in the 38th over, with Kathryn Jackson taking 3-10 and Amy Seddon 3-14.
