LATCHFORD Albion went down 44-6 to unbeaten league leaders Ashton Bears – one of their heaviest defeats of the season
Despite the defeat, coach Martyn Ellis looked at the positives of the game.
He said “ Scorelines can be harsh in rugby and this one was tough, as I do not feel it represented the amount of effort we put into the game.
“We had a real go and after 30 minutes we were only 10-6 down, where if we had just been a little bit more patient and clinical, we could have swung the momentum back our way.
“The second half was hard . We had players with knocks, and Ashton are not undefeated for no reason, they are a very good team,. But we are still a young side who are learning and we will take what we can away from the game.”
Ashton raced into an early 10 – 0 lead with two tries in the opening minutes.
Albion worked their way back into the game and were rewarded when captain Danny Brown (pictured) crossed near the posts, Sam Dobson converting.
Unfortunately that was as good as it got for Albion as the hosts took full control shortly after, registering three tries in the last 10 minutes of the half to hold A 26-6 lead at the break
Despite Albion never giving in the hosts registered three further converted tries in the second half to give a tough look to the scoreline
This Saturday sees Albion’s league campaign come to a close when they host Thatto Heath Crusaders A at the ASICS Victoria Park Arena, kick off 2.30pm.
