Plan to change gym building into four-bed dwelling on Green Belt site

AN imaginative plan to change the use of a domestic outbuilding previously used as a gym into a single dwelling has been put to Warrington planners.

The scheme is within the Green Belt and is in the grounds of Cuerdon Cottage, Cuerdon Drive Thelwall.

It proposes the retention of a replacement conservatory, retention of an extension and change of use of the outbuilding to form a single dwelling, including the retention of a bedroom formed from a previously walled courtyard.

Access to the new dwelling would be shared with the existing access to Cuerdon Cottage to Weaste Lsne.
The building to be converted is predominantly single-storey although it has an existing wine cellar at lower ground level, which would be retained.
It would have four bedrooms, a snug and an open plan kitchen/living/garden room.
Back in May, planning chiefs approved proposals for an additional dwelling within the grounds of Cuerdon Cottage despite objections from Grappenhall and Thelwall Parish Council and nine neighbours – one of who claimed a “housing estate” was being built in the grounds of the cottage and that the applicant was continually applying for one thing and then changing to another.
Warrington Borough Council planning officers argued that the proposals were not inappropriate in the Green Belt.
