OFFICERS investigating an assault in Lymm involving an attempted hammer attack have issued a CCTV image of a man they would like to speak to.

At around 12am on 24 July, a man was standing outside licensed premises at the junction of Rectory Lane and Pepper Street when an unknown man approached him and attempted to strike the victim over the head with a hammer.

Luckily, the victim only sustained minor cuts as a result of the incident. The suspect then fled the scene towards The Cross past the Golden Fleece in Lymm Village. Police are now appealing for anyone with information to come forward.

Police Constable James Gibbison said: “This is a totally unprovoked attack and we are doing all we can to find the person responsible.

“Thankfully the man only sustained minor injuries but it could have been a lot worse.
“I am appealing to anyone who may know the man in the CCTV or the man himself to come forward.
“The same goes to anyone who may have information about the incident but has not yet spoken to police.”
