Lengthy delays on M56 following serious collision as music fans arrive for Creamfields

THERE were lengthy traffic delays on the M56 near Warrington following a serious collision involving a car and a pedestrian as thousands of music fans descended on Daresbury for the Creamfields Festival.

A collision took place on the slip road of the M56 westbound at around 1 pm involving a pedestrian and a car, adding to increasing traffic congestion caused by festival goers.
Congestion tailed back more than six miles at one point, although the slip road has since re-opened.

A spokesperson for Cheshire Police said: “Officers were called to the slip road of the M56 westbound at junction 11 at around 1 pm today, Thursday, August 25, following reports of a collision involving a pedestrian and a car.

“The pedestrian, a man aged in his 20s, has sustained serious but non-life-threatening injuries.
“If attending Creamfields, drivers are asked to continue on to junction 12.
“Drivers are being urged to remain inside their vehicles if trapped in traffic.”
