A Rotary Club which nearly folded has gone from strength to strength and recently inducted a new President.

Neville Davies, who helped rescue the Rotary Club of Lymm has now handed over to incoming Club President, Colin Oakley.

It’s been a “very good year to date” for the club so far, keeping busy doing many things within the community, including litter picking around the area.

Their annual Seniors Afternoon Tea Party was a great success with 150 teas and plants being delivered around the district. Members their picnic afternoon tea with friends and family.

Several donations have already been made this year. At Their Presentation Night, the monies raised from their 2021 Santa Float were distributed to those clubs and organisations who helped on the many nights they were out collecting.
In addition, the club has provided funds for the planting of 70 trees to mark the Queen’s Platinum Jubilee.
They have also donated £500 to Warrington Disability Partnership towards the purchase of much-needed wheelchairs. Local Primary Schools have also received £100 each towards new books/ toys for their Libraries. Lymm Heritage Centre was given a cheque for £200 towards the cost of mounting their Platinum Jubilee Exhibition and Lymm Radio, who are hoping to go DAB in October, were presented with a cheque for £500 towards the new equipment that they will need. A boot full of foodstuff was also delivered to Warrington Food Bank whose shelves are always in need of replenishment.

Future plans include members taking part in the St. Rocco’s Challenges. The club will also be hosting a Macmillan Coffee Morning again in September, and in October and November many of members will be helping out with Lymm’s Poppy Appeal as well as collecting for Children in Need. A trip to Blackpool lights is also in the planning. And, of course, in November and December Santa will be visiting many homes in the Lymm and Thelwall area.
The Club meets once a fortnight on a Wednesday at the Parish Rooms at Warburton. Anyone interested in joining contact Mike at [email protected] and come along to one of their meetings.
