Petition launched after popular Great Sankey Cllr Amanda King expelled by Labour Party

NUMEROUS Labour Cllrs. have been left shocked after popular Great Sankey Cllr Amanda King was expelled by the Labour Party – and now an online petition has been launched demanding her reinstatement.

While Cllr King is remaining tight-lipped about the decision , pending an appeal that could take several weeks, party members and fellow Cllrs have been left shocked by the decision.

While no details have been officially released regarding the decision , social media posts suggest it relates to Cllr. King, showing support for a rival political party by liking a facebook post.

Meanwhile, an online petition has been launched by Warrington resident Brendan Murray demanding that Cllr King be reinstated by Labour.
It read: “SAVE THE SANKEY ONE – REINSTATE COUNCILLOR AMANDA KING!
“We, the people of Warrington, were appalled to hear of the decision by the Labour Party to expel our well-respected local councillor Amanda King. Having seen the reasons behind this decision, we see no justification for Labour to dismiss such a committed, selfless and community-minded individual. We judge the case against her to be both artificially constructed and wafer-thin.

“Amanda is a hugely admired member of the community and the church. She supports the residents she represents without fear or favour, champions our great town, and has done an enormous amount to bolster local charities and voluntary groups. The hours she dedicated to protecting the most vulnerable during the COVID-19 lockdown were second to none. Her work for the good of Warrington is recognised by people of all political affiliations, even those who do not vote for her at election time.

“The way she has been treated by the Labour Party is outrageous. We are disgusted by the suggestion that some of her fellow Party members and councillors may have trawled through her Facebook history in an attempt to discredit her, or bring into question her integrity. Their behaviour is beyond contempt. We believe this is a cynically motivated, personally targeted, malicious campaign against a person of extremely high standing. We will not let it go unchallenged.

“We demand the immediate reinstatement of Amanda King to the Labour Party. We expect this miscarriage of justice to be corrected without delay and believe Amanda deserves an apology for this appalling mistreatment.
We call on all councillors to express their public support for Amanda at this time. We also demand that the Leader of Warrington Borough Council (Russ Bowden) and the Deputy Leader (Cathy Mitchell) issue a statement without delay confirming their full support for her. We will not forgive them if they choose to remain silent.

When asked to comment Council leader Cllr. Russ Bowden and Deputy leader of the council Cathy Mitchell said: “We note the decision of The Labour Party to expel Cllr Amanda King. We are not yet aware of the details behind this decision.
“Cllr King remains a member of the Council but as she is not a member of The Labour Party, then she can not be part of the Labour Group or administration.”

  1. The leader and deputy leader are fully aware of the details behind this decision and are using their standard excuses. If they wish to be informed they can contact me as they have my contact details and I willingly inform them. I look forward to hearing from them.

  2. Personally I would far rather that Amanda retains the Independent status on the council that WBC have transferred her to on their website listing of councillors. One of the hardest working, most caring people you could wish to meet and truly tries to look after the best interests of her constituents. Previously overlooked as a potential MP and would certainly have been my preference for Warrington North.

    • I cancelled my Labour Party membership a while back as I am unhappy with many local and national decisions (so much of power with those educated at private so they think like tories – completely out of touch.
Cllr Amanda King is hard working and committed to the best interests of local people. If she were my Cllr I’d vote for her as an Independent. She’s far more use than our Warrington North MP!

  3. As the first 2 commentators have said. Of course the Leader and Dep Leader are aware of why she has been expelled. Nothing moves in the world of the local Labour party that hasn’t been choreographed by the Leader. Are we seriously expected to believe this wasn’t discussed with them before she was expelled?

Kudos to www however for leaving this subject open to public comment. Unlike the WG and a certain Labour luvvy fb group.

    • Councillor Amanda King is one of the most thoughtful people I’ve ever come across. I was really struggling & she & her team at the food bank helped me throughout the pandemic & continue to help me to this day. She is an absolute credit to the Borough of Warrington. She is a credit to everyone that knows her. God bless x

  4. The Labour Party are in absolute desperate need of councillors like Amanda, not less. She listens to residents & make things happen for them. I wish all councillors were like her! Unfortunately most aren’t & that’s probably why this witch hunt is on.. most are lazy!

  5.
