Dangerous driver sped down the wrong way on M62 on four flat tyres in bid to escape police pursuit

VIDEO: A RIXTON man who was arrested following a dangerous pursuit after driving down the wrong way down the M62 with four flat tyres in a bid to escape police has been jailed for 12 months.

At around 7.50pm on Wednesday 20 July, officers on patrol in Culcheth spotted a black Volkswagen Golf on Holdcroft Lane, which was displaying false number plates.

Officers followed the car as it travelled onto Warrington Road before a stinger was used to deflate the vehicle’s tyres as it entered the Birchwood area.
Despite having four flat tyres, the driver refused to stop for officers, so a pursuit was authorised. Officers followed the car as it drove the wrong way down the M62 between junctions 11 and 10.
The vehicle eventually came to a stop near to junction 10 after the driver stopped in an emergency refuge bay and attempted to make off on foot into nearby fields.
The driver of the car, Harry Hosker, was arrested a short time later.

The 27-year-old was subsequently charged with dangerous driving, use of a false number plate, driving without insurance, driving without a licence and possession of Class B drugs (Cannabis).
Hosker, of Temple House, Glazebrook Lane, Rixton, appeared at Chester Magistrates’ Court on Friday 22 July where he pleaded guilty to all the charges and was sentenced to one year in prison.

Following the sentencing PC Dave Carr, from the Cheshire Police Roads and Crime Unit, said: “During the pursuit Hosker showed no regard for the safety of our officers or the other innocent road users, travelling at high speeds while having four flat tyres and even driving the wrong way down the motorway.
“However, despite his repeated attempts to evade officers, there really was nowhere to hide and he is now facing the consequences of his actions.”
In addition to his prison sentence, Hosker was also disqualified from driving for 54 months.
