Person sadly dies after being struck by train near Warrington

A person has sadly died after being struck by a train near Warrington earlier, today Monday.

The person was tragically hit on the main line running from Liverpool Lime Street to Warrington Central at around 9.15 am this morning (Monday).

The railway line was closed between Warrington Central and Liverpool Lime Street, following the incident near Sankey for Penketh Station but has since reopened.

A British Transport Police spokesperson said: “British Transport Police were called to the line near Warrington at 9.15 am today (25 July) following reports of a casualty on the tracks. Paramedics also attended, however sadly a person was pronounced dead at the scene.
“Officers are working to identify the deceased and inform their next of kin. This incident is not being treated as suspicious.”
