An outstanding place to do business

KEY task for the board of the new Cheshire and Warrington Local Enterprise Partnership will be promoting the county as an outstanding place to do business.
This was the message from Ian Marks, leader of Warrington Borough Council and a board member, as the names of the 14 board members were officially released.
In fact, Warrington-Worldwide exclusively revealed the names on January 19.
They are: private sector category: Martin Ashcroft, Brunner Mond; Robert Davies, EA Technology; Christine Gaskell, Bentley Motors; Howard Hopwood, Harman Technology; Louise Morrissey, Peel Holdings; Graham Ramsbottom, Grosvenor Estate; Nigel Schofield, Northenden Travel Group; Pete Waterman, Pete Waterman Entertainments.
Public sector category: Sara Mogel,(Further Education), Alison Roylance-White, (Voluntary Services) Tim Wheeler, (Higher Education).
In addition, the leaders of the three local authorities in the area – Warrington, Cheshire East and Cheshire West and Chester – are ex-officio members.
Cllr Marks (pictured) said: “The first task of the new board is to elect a chairman and then we must continue to promote Cheshire and Warrington as an outstanding place to do business.
“We are already a successful economy but we can do more to create jobs and prosperity and help rebuild the national economy.”
Almost 100 people applied for places on the board – an indication of the enthusiasm of local businesses.
Cllr Marks said: “We were delighted with the huge number of applications received. I know the people appointed will make an excellent team and we are fortunate to have such a good mix of people from different sectors, many of them with a Warrington connection.
No decision has yet been made where the LEP will have its offices.
But Warrington-Worldwide can reveal that one place under consideration is Castle Park House, at Frodsham.
This is within the Chester West and Chester area – but is seen as a good, strategically placed location for the whole of the Cheshire and Warrington area.
The building and surrounding park has recently benefited from a multi-million £ restoration project.
The Cheshire and Warrington Local Enterprise Partnership is one of about two dozen given the green light by the Department for Business Innovation and Skills at the end of last year to pioneer this new partnership project which brings together the public and private sectors together to create sustainable economic growth.
