Grappers leap-frog title rivals to go top of the league

GRAPPENHALL won again and went top of the RSK Cheshire County League division one table – leap-frogging title rivals Cheadle in the process.
It was a comfortable win for Grappers at Marple after the home side elected to bat first but were then bowled out for 125 in the 40th over.
Ed Barnes took 4-39 and Aaran McCabe 4-18 with Josh Hayes picking up 2-41.
The target was never going to trouble a buoyant Grappers side who have not lost in the league since early May.
Grant Hodnett hit 48 not out and Barnes 38 as Grappers coasted to 126-5 in 26 overs.
Grappenhall 2nd lost by 64 runs at home to Stockport Georgians who batted first and h it 230-4. Left-arm spinner Lloyd Milligan was the pick of the Grappers’ attacking, taking 3-39 in 10 overs.
Three wickets fell quickly when Grappers replied but Alex Perry, 77 and Graeme Rowlands, 40, figured in a stand which for a time gave hope. But the tail struggled against a good attack and the last wicket fell with 166 on the board.
Grappenhall 3rd won a cracker of a game at Heaton Mersey – by just one run.
Batting first, they were all out for a disappointing 130, James Knowles top scoring with 28.
Heaton Mersey looked on course to win the game with early runs, but the excellent spin bowling of Fameesh Azeez and Lloyd Milligan, with three wickets apiece, turned the game in Grappers’ favour. Matt Hardman also picked up three wickets, taking the final wicket of the game.
Warrington earned a draw against Romiley at Walton Lea after their batsmen failed to keep up with the required run rate.
The visitors batted first and hit a challenging 234-9 in 50 overs.
Skipper Ashley Scholes took 4-63 and Muhammad Abid bowled well for his 3-57.
Warrington’s reply got off to a good start with openers Richard Lyons, 20, and James Rudd, 44, putting on 71 for the first wicket. But three wickets fell before 100 was on the board and gradually the target seemed further away.
Jack Knowles hammered a lively 47, including three sixes but at the close Warrington were on 217-8. They picked up nine points from the game to Romiley’s 14.
Warrington 2nd won by three wickets at Congleton.
The home side elected to bat first and were bowled out for 178, Asmir Ali taking 4-29.
Warrington’s batsmen all contributed to the run chase, with Rishek Manta top-scoring with 38, and Ali hitting 30 not out.
In the UKFast Cheshire League, Lymm Oughtrington Park lost by eight wickets at home to Wirral after being dismissed for a modest 142.
Seve Knowles top-scored with 27 and Rahil Lala contributed 26.
Wirral cantered to victory for the loss of two wickets.
Appleton won by 14 runs at home to Cheadle Hulme Ladybridge after winning the toss, batting first and hitting 197-8 in 45 overs.
The visitors finished on 183-9.
Appleton 2nd won by six wickets at Oxton afer dismissing the home side for 194.
Roger Cawhorne was the pick of the bowlers, taking 4-27 and Alex Howard and Dinesh Quayyum picking up two wickets each.
Appleton 3rd suffered a nine-wicket mauling at Timperley after being restricted to 121-8, despite Sam Thorley’s well-struck 40.
Timperley raced to victory for the loss of only one wicket.
Appleton 4th won by six runs in a tight finish a home to Upton.
Arun Arungunasdekaram hit a lively 68 and wicket keeper Nick Williams weighed in with 36 as Appleton hit 181.
Upton got off to a blistering start, reaching 101 before they lost a wicket. But then Arungunasakaram took 3-23 and Marcus Pepper and Harry Little took two wickets each to restrict the visitors to 175-9.
Glazebury won easily at home to Prestbury after batting first and scoring a massive 275-9.
Jack Warhurst hit 88 from 68 balls, Kyle Keeble 65 not out from 46 balls and Anthony Meulman 55.
The visitors could not handle the pace of Sam Stanier, who took 7-16 in 6.2 overs while Kenny Jarvis took 3-38 at the other end.
Prestbury ended up 63 all out in the 13th over.
Glazebury 2nd were bowled out for 33 at Mellor and then saw the home site chase down the modest target for the loss of one wicket.
