FIREFIGHTERS are appealing to people not to start fires in the open after being called out three times on Sunday morning to tackle small fires in the open, including woodland at Appleton.

During the hot dry weather these fires could easily spread out of control and delay firefighters attending other emergencies.

At 11:30 am one crew from Lymm was called to Vetch Close, Warrington and used one hose reel jet to put out a garden fire which had spread to nearby trees and bushes.
Earlier a crew from lymm had been called to the Dingle at Appleton off Witherwin Avenue, at 9;32 am
Firefighters used water backpacks and a stack drag to put out a fire involving leaves and branches in the Appleton woodland.

Meanwhile a drew from Warrington was called out at 09:26 to Delph Lane, Wiwnick, where firefighters used one hose reel to put out a tree that had caught fire near the M6/M62 interchange in Warrington.
