AN investigation is underway after a casualty was taken to hospital following a house fire near Warrington town centre last night, Friday.

Shortly before 19:45 crews from Penketh and Lymm attended reports of a house fire on Wellfield Street, Warrington.

On arrival, they found a well-established fire in an understairs space adjoining the kitchen.

Two firefighters used a hose reel water jet to extinguish the blaze while colleagues provided initial care to one casualty, who was taken to hospital suffering the effects of smoke inhalation and minor burns. The cause of the fire is being investigated.

Earlier in the day firefighters from Warrington attended an incident at Arena Gardens Warrington at 14:17. Smoke in a flat from a plastic kettle on a hob required firefighters to ventilate the property.
