A stray firework is understood to have started a fire that damaged around 15 metres of hedgerow bordering woodland at Appleton, earlier today.
Large bangs were heard in the Lyons Lane area during the afternoon, culminating in firefighters being called out to tackle a hedgerow fire at a property in the area.
Local sources reported hearing numerous fireworks going off “like guns” prior to firefighters attending at the scene.
It’s understood one of the fireworks fell over and fired into the hedgerow, starting the blaze.
White Watch have attended an incident which has damaged a large amount of hedgerow.
Please be careful in the hot weather, even the slightest spark can cause a fire. pic.twitter.com/m68IJgy8Fk
