Getting tough with late night rowdies

TOUGH new measures will tackle bad behaviour by late night revellers in Warrington and Stockton Heath.
Warrington Borough Council has introduced a new licensing policy to tackle crime and antisocial behaviour caused by irresponsible drinking. It follows submission of detailed evidence by the police and overwhelming public support.
The new Cumulative Impact Policy will initially focus on the town centre and Stockton Heath due to the number and density of licensed venues in these areas.
Anyone applying for a new or revised licence will have to prove that there will not be an impact on crime and disorder or public nuisance – otherwise it is likely to be refused.
Cllr Mike Biggin, the borough council’s executive member for climate change and public protection, said: “We are determined to work with local residents, businesses and the police to provide a safe and welcoming night-time environment that everyone can enjoy.
“The Cumulative Impact Policies are an important part of our plans. We are one of a handful of authorities to introduce these tough measures and I am confident that they will help to make a difference.”
Chief Superintendent Richard Strachan said: “We welcome the introduction of the Cumulative Impact Policy. This is part of the ongoing commitment between police and partners to tackle alcohol-related crime and disorder in Warrington.
“Bad behaviour will not be tolerated in the town and this once again sends out a clear message to anyone intent on causing problems in and around licensed premises that their behaviour is not acceptable.”
Police and partners are working together in Warrington as part of the ArcAngel campaign tackling alcohol-related crime. They are using a range of tactics to tackle alcohol problems caused both by individuals and venues.

  1. About time… maybe they could shut down or restrict the opening hours of the ones that already have licences rather than just refuse to renew or revise applications when the time is right. 11.30 pm is plenty late enough for Stockton Heath and I’d say 1am is more than acceptable for the town centre
