Road traffic collisions on M6 and M62 cause lengthy delays

TWO road traffic collisions on the M6 and M62 road networks at Warrington caused lengthy tailbacks of between four and five miles today, Wednesday.

Shortly before 2pm, two fire engines from Warrington and Birchwood were called to a multi-vehicle collision on the M6 southbound between junctions 21a and 21 Thelwall Viaduct near Woolston.

The incident involved one vehicle on its side. Two people were out of the vehicle on the arrival of the crew. The southbound carriageway was closed while the incident was dealt with and first aid was given to the two people. Paramedics and police also attended. The road has since been cleared.

Later a collision on the M62 Eastbound, between Junction 11 at Birchwood and Junction 12 resulted in the closure of the motorway.

Four miles of congestion are currently being reported eastbound with motorists advised to add an hour to their travel time.
