Council approves funding to replace leaking roofs at specialist school

LEAKING flat roofs at Woolston Brook School, a specialist school for young people with Social, Emotional and Mental Health needs on Green Lane, Padgate, is set to be replaced.

“After a survey of all Council-run schools’ facilities before Christmas, it became clear that Woolston Brook needed a number of new flat roofs,” said Ward Councillor Graham Friend (Poulton North).

“The old roofs were beginning to leak in several places, damaging the school building and disrupting learning. After consultation with the school’s management team, a tender for their replacement was quickly drawn up, and Council officers selected the best offer.”

Following a specialist roofing survey, a ‘warm roof’ felt system was selected to replace the existing flat roofs, with thick insulation helping Woolston Brook to save on its energy bills. Guttering and fascias will also be replaced.

“The replacement roofs should last the school well into the second half of this century,” said Cabinet Member for Children’s Services, Cllr Sarah Hall (Bewsey and Whitecross).

“The work will be fully funded from capital monies already allocated to the Council, meaning we aren’t spending any money we haven’t already earmarked to spend on our schools.

“Our SEMH schools do fantastic work for young people all over Warrington, and I’m proud to be part of a Council that’s willing to invest properly in our children’s futures.”

Warrington’s Cabinet has given approval to the spending.
