DETECTIVES at Warrington have issued a warning about bogus workmen who appear to be targeting elderly people.
Two men called at a house in Scott Street, Orford and persuaded the elderly woman occupant to allow them into the house on the pretext that some work was needed on her roof.
They quoted £25 for doing the work and she gave them cash for the work. They then left and the woman discovered the contents of her purse had been stolen.
The woman was left shaken but unhurt.
PC Neil Orford, who is investigating the incident said “We advise residents not to allow any strangers access to their home. Anyone purporting to be working on behalf of a contractor, or a utility company, would provide official identification which can be verified by phoning the company. If in doubt, do not allow anyone into your house and report any suspicious behaviour to police on 0845 458 0000.”
