Nature group opposes model planes

ACTIVITIES ranging from surveying bats and water voles to objecting to a model aircraft flying site have been carried out by a Warrington nature group.
Chairman Geoff Settle outlined the work carried out during the year at the annual meeting of Warrington Nature Conservation Forum.
He told members that there was concern about a recent planning application for a model aircraft flying site next to Moore Nature Reserve. He wrote on behalf of the forum to object to the application and the application has since been withdrawn.
He thanked members who had taken part in a range of activities during the year including Swift surveys, bat roost monitoring and water vole habitat surveys.
The forum has also been monitoring the structure planting and work in parks and woodlands. Activities included publicising the group and a summer event organised by The Friends of Peel Hall Park.
Throughout the year there were a range of speakers. The group’s summer meeting was held outdoors and members enjoyed surveying the Mersey Fry refuge in the sunshine.
Recently Geoff organised a litter pick at Houghton Green Pool, which suffers from anti social behaviour during the summer. Members were asked to suggest sites that need improvement during next year.

  1. Brilliant news! Moore Nature Reserve is by far one of my favourite places to visit not only in this country but I would go as far to say the world. I spend every weekend possible there with my Camera.

Every time I visit I see something I have never seen before or something spectacular. On my last visit I saw a kingfisher & sparrow hawk & I never tire of watching the regular visitors such as the woodpeckers & squirrels although I’m still yet to spot the Bittern!

It is in my opinion an area of outstanding beauty, one of the most TRANQUIL; BEAUTIFUL places & a haven for wildlife. It would be a shame to see or hear anything in or around Moore Nature Reserve other than the sight or sound of nature itself. Hayley x
