Police confirm death of woman in her 70s following serious flat fire at Latchford

UPDATED: POLICE have sadly confirmed the death of a woman in her 70s following a serious flat fire at Latchford last night, Tuesday.

At around 9:45 pm three fire crews from Warrington, Lymm and Stockton Heath, attended reports of a serious flat fire on Lyon Street, Latchford.

Firefighters wearing breathing apparatus used a hose reel water jet to extinguish the fire and contain it to the flat in which it started.

A Cheshire Police spokesperson said: “At 10.10 pm on Tuesday 3 May, police were called to support Cheshire Fire and Rescue Service following a fire at a flat on Lyon Street, Latchford.
Sadly, a woman died as a result of the fire.
Formal identification has not yet taken place, but she is believed to be in her 70s.
Her next of kin has been informed.
Cheshire Fire and Rescue Service has launched an investigation into the cause of the fire.
