POLICE issued a warning about black ice in the Warrington area today after a car plunged off the M6 link road at Winwick.
A woman driver was taken to hospital after her Renault Clio car skidded on black ice, careered off the road and rolled down an embankment.
She managed to get out of the car but was carried up the embankment on a spine board by firefighters who were called to the scene to assist ambulance crews. Her condition is not yet known.
The accident happened shortly after 7am.
Police warned that black ice could be a problem on road almost anywhere in the Warrington area and urged drivers to show extreme caution.
Overnight snow and sleet has frozen on the sub-zero road surfaces and although all main roads have been treated patches of ice have formed.
Side roads can be particularly dangerous.
