WARRINGTON  Rylands strengthened their position at the top of the table on Saturday without kicking a ball as the NPL West title race took another twist, while also boosted by star striker Kane Drummond agreeing on a contract extension.

Playing their game in hand, 2nd placed Workington failed to capitalise going down 2-1 at Marine leaving the Cumbrians a point behind Rylands with both teams having two games to play.

With Workington’s two remaining games being against the relegated duo of Kendal Town and Market Drayton Town, Rylands have the trickier run in facing mid-table opposition in Bootle at home next Saturday and 1874 Northwich away , tomorrow, Easter Monday.

Sitting 10th in the table 1874 Northwich were held to a 0-0 draw on Saturday by Kendal Town which whilst bringing to an end their 3 match winning run it did extend their unbeaten run to six games

1874’s 19 home games, including a cup tie, have attracted an average attendance of 274 with the highest home attendance being 645 for the New Year’s Day Cheshire derby with Runcorn Linnets. The lowest was 193 for the visit of Newcastle Town.

Warrington Rylands have played 1874 Northwich on four previous occasions, with each game having been played in four different competitions. 1874 won the first two encounters and Rylands the last two including the NPL West game at Gorsey Lane in February.

In front of a crowd of 369 a clinical display of finishing by Rylands saw them beat 1874 3-1 with Andy Scarisbrick , Kane Drummond and Adam Buxton on target for the Blues while Markell Foulds netted a consolation for the Greens.

Kick off at the Offside Trust Stadium, Barnton, CW7 3AE will be 3pm.
