Portacabin office development thrown out by planners

A RETROSPECTIVE application for permission to retain a portacabin office adjoining a workshop at Woolston has been thrown out by Warrington planning chiefs

Warrington Borough Council planners say the development, because of its size, design and location in Greymist Avenue, is an incongruous feature having an unacceptable impact on nearby residents and the general character of the area.

In addition, insufficient information has been submitted to allow a proper assessment of the impact of the development on the Woolston Eyes Site of Special Scientific Interest.

There were no objections from Woolston Parish Council but a number of residents had raised concerns, including one who said the portacabin had been sited without consulting residents and, when its window was open, had a clear view into their garden.

There were also objections based on the speed and volume of traffic using Greymist Avenue.

Greater Manchester Ecology Unit had raised concerns about the risks the development posed to Woolston Eyes.

The site is currently used as a base for a domestic and commercial bin cleaning service although a search of records has not confirmed that such a use has ever been regularised.
