Residents to be consulted

RESIDENTS of Culcheth may be consulted on whether or not they are prepared to pay extra council tax for one year only to meet the £33,000 cost of improving drainage on the village green.
Culcheth and Glazebury Parish Council wants to carry out the work – but has been unable to obtain grant aid towards the cost.
The council has £10,000 earmarked for the scheme but would need to increase the parish precept – probably by about £5 per council tax payer – to raise the balance.
Coun Keith Bland said: “We would have to consult the residents to find out if they would like us to do this work.
“The increase would be for one year only.”
Flooding has been a major problem on The Green for some years. At one time a “pond” formed which even attracted ducks!
Waterlogged turf has sometimes presented difficulties on Community Day in May.
Coun Bland said Culcheth and Glazebury had one of the lowest precepts in the borough but it would still be necessary to consult residents before any decision was made to go ahead with the scheme.
