Golden Square symptom-free COVID-19 testing site to close

WARRINGTON’S Golden Square symptom-free COVID-19 testing site will close on Saturday (March 26) following the government’s ‘Living with COVID’ announcement that free Lateral Flow Testing for the public will come to an end from 1 April 2022.

The testing site will remain open every day this week, 11am – 1pm, until Saturday, for lateral flow tests and home test kit collection.

From 1 April, the government will end free symptom-free COVID-19 testing and symptomatic testing, apart from for a small number of at-risk groups and those working in health and social care settings.

The site, located in the former Bright House store on Sankey Street, has been open since May 2021.

Between January 2021 and March 2022, the Testing Team has carried out or distributed a total 436,141 individual lateral flow tests (as of 23 March 2022). These tests have been distributed both at the testing sites and through community outreach work, targeting people most at risk from COVID.

Although the testing site is closing, residents are being reminded to continue to keep doing what they can to limit the spread of the virus to reduce the risk of transmission and protect vulnerable people.

Earlier this week, Warrington’s public health leaders offered advice to keep residents safe following a rise in cases locally, stressing that the pandemic is not over and we are still living with the virus.

Residents should continue to self-isolate if they have any symptoms and are able to, and follow the basics of washing your hands, wearing a face covering in enclosed public spaces, keeping our distance from others and meeting in well-ventilated spaces, as this will help to reduce the risk of the virus spreading.
