A peaceful picket line has been set up outside the historic Raven Inn at Glazebury, in the ongoing battle to save the premises from demolition and be retained for community use.
With the premises due to go under the auctioneer’s hammer, campaigners who are keen to purchase the premises, want any prospective purchasers to know the strength of local feeling, that it should become a public house once again.
Help Save the Raven spokesperson, Peter Sturman said: “We are aware the Raven is being marketed by a London-based agent.
“A London-based agent may attract people, from outside the area, who are not aware of the history and heritage of the Raven.
“In all fairness to any prospective developer, we feel we must make them aware of the many issues they would have to try to overcome. Add to that, the regard in which the Raven is held, together with the sheer weight of local public opinion that the Raven must be saved and preserved.
“This is an entirely peaceful, passive gathering designed to make people aware.
“We are keeping the numbers down, so as not to intimidate.
“It is our hope that no viewers turn up. If any do they will be aware of our community’s love for the Raven.”
Campaigners believe the next few days will be pivotal for the future of the historic building.
