High Legh 10k was “best yet!”

AFTER an absence of a year due to the pandemic The Robert Moffat Memorial 13th Anniversary High Legh 10k Race returned, with participants describing it as the “best yet!”

The High Legh Community Association and Lymm Runners were thrilled to be able to hold this wonderful local race again last Sunday.

The sun shone to encourage one of the highest turnouts of runners ever – 544, supported by a super-efficient organising team, friendly marshals on the course and local High Legh residents, who came out to cheer everyone on.

High Legh 10k Race Director, James Hurrell commented: “It was amazing to welcome back a record number of runners from Clubs around the region, as well as individuals. It was especially pleasing to see the latest graduates from the Lymm Runners Beginners Course complete their first race. Running is back!’

The organisers also continued their moves to reduce the environmental impact of the race by using biodegradable goody bags, offering entrants the opportunity to opt-out of having a T-shirt to plant a tree instead which raised a massive £700.00 for the Tees for Trees charity, having wooden finishers medals, and using paper bags instead of plastic for the iconic gingerbread men.

Nick Gerrard, Race Team Chair commented: “Lymm Runners and the High Legh Community Association would like to thank all the volunteers without whom this friendly and popular event would not be possible: this includes the organising committee, the goody bag and registrations teams and also the ever-cheerful Marshals who always have such a positive impact on the runners, and not forgetting those who helped to clear up.’

“We have had more sponsors than ever this year and they have been, as ever, very generous. We would like to thank them for their donations of cheques, vouchers or in kind, including plants, water, fruit and other prizes.”

“We would also like to congratulate first male and female runners, Sam Aspinwall of Sale Harriers, Manchester in 33 minutes 43 seconds and Alison Roberts of Lymm Runners in 39 minutes 43 seconds (both are pictured below). Well done also to the winners of the First Male and Female High Legh residents home – Cathal McCosker in 38 minutes and 8 seconds and Rosie Martland in 41 minutes and 57 seconds.

“Best one yet, (and it was a high bar)…great organisation, brilliant marshals……loved the use of paper cups for the water…and the lovely cake stall.” Susan R.
