Business hub staff smash salary ceiling

STAFF employed by businesses based at Warrington’s leading advanced manufacturing and engineering hub, The Base on Dallam Lane, earn a third more than the UK average, a survey of its tenants has found.

And employees at the thriving Grade A office building, home to more than 25 companies, also enjoy salaries 14 percent higher than the northwest average and almost 5 percent higher than in the Warrington area as a whole.

“Our tenants deliver innovative, high-value services across a range of technology and engineering sectors and this is reflected in their high earnings,” said Jayne Furnival, Group Property Director at Langtree, which manages the state-of-the-art building on behalf of owners Warrington & Co.

“It was always our ambition to create an environment where leading-edge companies could thrive and help future-proof the Warrington economy. We have nurtured an eco-system here where companies network and collaborate together and they’re collectively driving the town’s economy forward.”

The average salary within the building is £39,294.13, against £29,600 for the UK as a whole, £34,500 for the northwest and £37,500 for Warrington, which has outperformed the regional and national average for many years. And, says Eleanor Blackburn, Head of Inclusive Growth and Partnerships at Warrington Council, the work at The Base benefits staff at all levels:

“Innovative, high-growth businesses of the type we have nurtured at The Base offer great career pathways at every level, helping their staff learn new skills and providing routes into higher-earning careers via structured training and apprenticeship programmes.

“Evidence shows that companies involved in higher-value work invest more in people development across the board, which is exactly the sort of inclusive growth that we have set out to achieve. This data is extremely encouraging,” added Eleanor.

Tenants at The Base benefit from a wide range of business support, including access to a panel of expert professional advisors, networking events and mentoring.

“A commercial eco-system like ours takes nurturing over the long-term and it’s great to see that it has paid off. We’ll continue along this path, helping grow the town’s future business stars,” concluded Jayne Furnival.
